Contemporary print of Ford's Theatre playbill for ''Our American Cousin'' which President Lincoln watched the evening of 14 April 1865, the night of his tragic assassination. Reads in part, ''FORD'S THEATRE...Season 11 Week XXXI Night 191...Friday Evening, April 14th, 1865. / THIS EVENING / The Performance will be honored by the presence of / PRESIDENT LINCOLN...'' This later version of the playbill has many distinct differences than the original, including ''L. Brown, Printer, Washington, D.C.'' printed to the bottom; the night identified as ''191'' instead of ''196''; ''Benefit'' not followed by ''!'' as in the original; the ''v'' in the role of ''Bussicomb, a Valet'' is uppercase; and playbill announces ''the presence of President Lincoln.'' Measures 6'' x 17.5''. Some dampstaining and paper loss, though archivally repaired. Good to very good condition.
