Gerald Ford typed letter signed. Dated 2 March 1981, the letter on Ford's personal stationery is addressed to Robert McNamara during his last few months as World Bank President. Letter reads in part: ''With deepest regrets, I cannot attend the dinner in your honor with David Rockefeller as host...Betty and I will be overseas...For over twenty years, I have seen first-hand the magnificent service you have performed on behalf of the United States. You undertook the most difficult responsibilities with dedication, skill and wisdom...You have epitomized integrity and dedication. Betty and I have always cherished our friendship with the McNamara's and wish you the very best on your retirement...Gerald R. Ford''. Ford signs in black felt tip. Single-page letter measures 7.25'' x 10.5''. Creasing with staple punctures to upper left, else near fine.
