Rare and historically important 1783 George Washington copper plate printed fabric titled ''America Presenting at the Altar of Liberty''. Fabric features a large portrait of General George Washington at upper left. To the right of Washington is Lady Liberty holding a large medallion of portraits of Washington and Benjamin Franklin. The Sons of Liberty depict the image background with famous historical figures John Adams, John Jay, Robert Morris and Samuel Huntington. Adorned in red and beige, textile appears to be a Revolutionary War adaptation of ancient Greek art and was identified as number six in Smithsonian curator Herbert Collins' monumental work ''Threads of History.'' Measuring 30.5'' x 22.75'', with eight rings on reverse for hanging. Small tears near Washington's knee, arm and face, light staining near one portrait and at the altar base and minor wear at the perimeters. In very good condition.
