Chester A. Arthur letter signed ''C.A. Arthur'' as Collector of Customs for the Port of New York. Dated 7 October 1873 on Custom House stationery, letter to General W.W. Belknap, Secretary of War, reads in part: ''I have received advices and Bill of lading...to your address for the War Department, of 1 case, which has arrived per S.S. 'City of Antwerp' and will be forwarded to Washington by Adams' Express tomorrow...'' 1pp. measuring 5.75'' x 8.75'' in faux marble frame for an overall size of 9.5'' x 11.5''. Intersecting folds, and light toning and soiling. Very good condition.
