''George Thomas 'Mickey' Leland Award'' presented to tennis legend Arthur Ashe posthumously by the Congressional Black Caucus, the organization that represents all African American Congress members. Ashe began to transition his superstar tennis career into the realm of public service, becoming an advocate of many social causes after suffering from a heart attack in 1979; his efforts in humanitarian causes were ceaseless until the end of his life. Unique statue depicts six various African American figures at different heights, growing taller from left to right, metaphorically depicting the progress of African Americans over time. Statue measures 17'' x 19'' and is affixed to a marble base with a plaque reading: ''Mr. Arthur Ashe / (posthumously) / Tennis Champion, Author, Humanitarian / The George Thomas Mickey Leland Humanitarian Award is presented to an individual for his or her exceptional work in the struggle for human rights and social justice''. Statue is engraved by the artist ''Dwight '93''. Marble base measures 14'' x 7'' with a large crack running diagonally through it, though not affecting the bronze statue itself. Very good condition. With an LOA from Ashe's widow.
