Brilliant Ellis Island Medal of Honor awarded to Arthur Ashe in 1993. The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation was then headed by Lee Iacocca, the famous Chrysler mogul and philanthropist. His name is engraved to the bottom edge of the medal's obverse, which presents a striking relief of the Statue of Liberty standing mightily before the Ellis Island horizon. Lettering arcing across the top reads, ''ELLIS ISLAND / Medal of Honor''. Engraved to the bottom edge of Liberty herself is the name of her sculptor, Bartholdi. Reverse features the continents of the Western Hemisphere, rendered in relief and flanking an engraving, ''ARTHUR ASHE / 1993''. A cloud and dove design hovers at the top and a ship sails in a crescent of water along the bottom edge. Rim bears a New Canaan Mint copyright stamp. Medal measures 2.5'' in diameter, weighs 1.75 oz. and hangs from a red, white and blue ribbon. Fine. Rests on a blue velvet cushion in a near fine blue velvet 4.25'' x 7'' case, with hinged lid lined in white satin. With an LOA from Arthur Ashe's widow.
