Hunter S. Thompson autograph letter signed ''Dr. Dark'', dated 17 October (1967) to his friend Paul Semonin, who he addresses as ''Karl'', a wink to Semonin's leftist politics. Lengthy letter spans three pages, composed on two sheets of legal paper measuring 8.5'' x 13''. Letter reads in part, ''Dear Karl...tried to bear down to write on a fuel mixture of 10% natural energy & 90% pills - The result was a raging stupor & no writing progress at all. I finally blew it all & went to sleep for 3 days...spend the winter here, working on the RD & learning to ski. My Joint Chiefs idea has gone into contract/bullshit limbo to the extent that I've given up on it. Those people are the reason I no longer think about living in NY...Dr. Dark...Sandy is pregnant again, and crazy like the other times - tears, screaming - like the good ole days. If I weaken any further, I might break down & pray for deliverance.'' Folds and tear to top of first sheet, otherwise near fine condition.
