John Wayne's screen-worn U.S. Cavalry uniform from ''How the West Was Won'', the hugely successful 1962 MGM film nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Costume Design, of which this is a fine example. Costume worn by Wayne as General William Tecumseh Sherman closely models a mid-19th century U.S. Cavalry officer's uniform, with three-quarter length navy blue wool jacket, brass buttons decorated with the American Eagle, and collar and cuffs trimmed in black velvet. Inside pocket contains Western Costume label that reads in type ''No.2643-1 / Name: John Wayne''. Matching waistcoat also has the Western Costume label with Wayne's name in type, though fainter. Very good to near fine condition.
