Jim Henson Early ''Muppets'' Character Sketch -- Depicting Notes for a Muppets Dance Number for a Very Early Television Debut -- Includes Two Polaroids of Henson Posing With the Puppets

Early ''Muppets'' sketch of two gazelles with handwritten notes by the show's legendary creator, Jim Henson. The gazelles made a very early debut along with the other early Muppets on 13 October 1974 with a guest spot on a Herb Alpert television special. The television appearance was so successful that the Muppets went on to get their own show, ''Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.'' Sketch with handwritten notes by Henson was used for a pitch meeting with ATV Studios in London. Story-board type sheet has detailed handwritten notes of a Muppets performance with the Alpert band: ''Dance Piece #2 / Gazelles 'Solace' or another trumpet solo - to be determined - Two Gazelles do graceful flirtation - male & female around H. Alpert as he plays solo - do a series of runs and leaps in air. Done in front of band on floor''. Illustration depicts two gazelles, drawn in yellow colored pencil, flanking ''H. Alpert'' as he plays an instrument. Henson's notes around illustration read: ''Band in background in shadow'', ''floor dark - preferably black'' and ''puppeteers all in black with black hoods. Puppeteers will show but not very clearly.'' Two Polaroids are mounted to board with Henson appearing in both with a gazelle in each, so as to show an example of how the production can be maneuvered. White board measures 13.75'' x 10.75'', framed in a transparent acrylic case equipped with wall mountings to an overall size of 17.25'' x 14.25''. Polaroids are starting to peel off, though still affixed, and minor scratches to acrylic, else near fine.
