Dracula-style cape worn by James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, who famously incorporated capes into his stage routines. Towards the end of the concert, Brown would feign being overwhelmed with emotion and fatigue -- giving everything he had during the concert -- and theatrically throw off the cape as a fellow musician would pick it up and try to console Brown as he helped him off stage. Originally auctioned as lot 259 in the James Brown Collection at Christie's 17 July 2008 sale. Full length black satin cape with red interior measures 59'' in length and 17'' around the neck, featuring a re-enforced, exaggerated collar with a small clasp at the front of neck. Light wear and missing thread at bottom of the cape's red interior, otherwise in near fine condition.
