White House invitation from the Carter administration to the wife of Robert McNamara. Four-piece lot includes a 5.75'' x 4'' invitation card bearing a presidential seal that reads in full: ''Mrs. Carter requests the pleasure of your company at a reception to be held at The White House on Thursday afternoon, October 11, 1979 at two o'clock''. A 4'' x 2.5'' RSVP card is included, asking for the response to be sent to the White House Social Secretary, and a separate 4.5'' x 2.75'' card indicates the event is ''In Celebration of National Reading is Fun Day''. Trio of materials are in fine condition. Accompanied by White House envelope hand-addressed to Mrs. Robert McNamara as Chair of Reading is Fundamental, Inc. at the Smithsonian Institution. Ink notation to envelope, ''File mementos'', else near fine.
