Hunter S. Thompson autograph letter twice-signed, once signed ''H'' at the conclusion and also ''Thompson'' in the address panel. Dated 28 March 1962 when Thompson lived in New York, he writes to his childhood friend Paul Semonin on an aerogram postmarked 29 March. In full, ''[Donald] Cooke was here Fri-Sat-Fun - no change in his status - father out in May, but Cooke not immediately free, even then. Expects to lv. Lou[isville] soon as possible, but can't say when that will be. / We had a good drunken weekend. Very expensive, but worth it, considering I rarely get out of the goddamn rathole, anyway. Went over the 300 pg mark tonight [on ''Rum Diary''] & hope to wrap it up at 340 or so. Another week at least, maybe two - no longer. / Am rounding up contacts & assgts. Camera arrived & it is a tank - I'm as happy with it as I would be with a .44 Mag. Money dwindling toward $200 mark - must leave soon or it will do me. To arrive in Caracas with $80 yanqui dollars would be suicide. This money is a terrible hex on a man. / I am sending you all the photos you took in NY last week - H''. Two page letter (front and back of aerogram) measures 7.25'' x 12''. Folds and mild toning, overall very good condition.
