Roosevelt writes to Helena Mahoney, the physical therapist who designed the rehabilitation program at the Warm Springs Institute just before it opened. Written upon his personalized stationery, FDR's excitement about the facility is palpable, reading in part, ''...I saw Dr. Hubbard last night and we are both delighted that you can get Miss Burnett...at a salary of $150.00 a month. She will, I am certain, be a great addition to our staff. / Dr. Hubbard tells me that you are leaving on Saturday [to move to Warm Springs]...I am writing Mr. E.T. Curtis, the manager, that you will arrive with your friend Thursday or Friday of next week. I think there are two or three patients already there...[signed] Franklin D. Roosevelt''. Letter measures 7.25'' x 10.5. Folds, else near fine.
