First edition, first printing of Dr. Seuss' classic ''The Cat in the Hat'' published by Random House: New York: 1957. Includes all first edition points: matte hardcover boards with educators' reviews and absence of Beginner Books series to rear cover. First printing dustjacket shows 200/200 price. Immensely popular book features Seuss at his best: ''...We looked! Then we saw him step in on the mat! We looked! And we saw him! The Cat in the Hat!...'' Runs 61pp., bound in pictorial boards measuring 6.75'' x 9.25''. Very faint soiling to the lower portions of some of the pages, likely from turning the pages, and surface loss to board corners and edges, else near fine. Dustjacket shows chipping and wear to edges and folds, and some light soiling to rear panel. Very good overall. A scarce first printing of a treasure in children's literature.
