Elsa Einstein typed letter signed to her cousin Erich, regarding a large celebration to welcome Albert Einstein to New Jersey, the state that he and Elsa recently made home after leaving Germany. Datelined Princeton, 24 March 1934, letter in German translates in part, ''...We will not be in New York, as you assume, but rather in N e w a r k in New Jersey. That is where the official welcoming ceremony for Albert by the State of New Jersey will take place. It is a gigantic funfair, a kind of public festival. The poor man has no idea yet what will be raining down on him there. He will open his mouth and eyes, and most likely, if he opens his mouth, he will rant, and then he will be so embarrassed and just stand there helplessly, as he always does when he is being celebrated. Nevertheless, you would not have seen much of us, since we will be surrounded by people tomorrow. We will already leave at noon with a ceremonial escort party, and then there will be a gigantic concert with a few thousand participants. Then, in the evening, there will be the banquet given by the Governor of the State. Albert will give talks at noon and in the evening. The most gratifying part, however, is that a large sum of money will be raised in the course of this event - they are anticipating 20,000 dollars - to aid the settlement of German refugees in Palestine.

Please do come to New York next week. However, it would be even nicer, if you could be here in Princeton by 11 o'clock in the morning. Then we would have an unhurried lunch together, and I promise you that there would be some delicious familiar fare. Later, around four o'clock, we will leave for New York to attend a beautiful concert that will be given in Albert's honor. Afterwards, there will be a Passover Seder arranged by the Palestine Labour League, which we will attend as well. Again, funds will be raised for the settlement of German Jews...'' Elsa then writes about helping a Jewish family relocate to the United States, ''The main thing is that she will be secure for now, living with a family. I am told that they are a nice Jewish family whose members feel the need to intervene and help, to the best of their ability, allay the catastrophe that is befalling the German Jews...[signed] Elsa''. Single page letter measures 8'' x 10.5''. Two hole punched to side, light toning and single fold line, overall near fine condition.
