Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter unsigned, written to Mamie in the midst of WWII. Dated ''Thursday, Jan 14'' (no year, though 1943 as identified from envelope), letter reads: ''Darling: It's about 11:00 a.m. I've gotten everybody going as hard as they can run on about a dozen projects & now I must wait answers. There being a bit of sun today I've moved out onto a porch outside my office and taking time off to tell you that, in my humble opinion, which may not be important to anyone except myself, you're one swell gal! Now I can take the subject and enlarge upon it from various angles - but the conclusion would always be the same. I've been discovered out here, and so far, four different guys have been out to argue with me, including Butch. I just heard of an emergency some 200 miles away, I must run out and jump into a plane to take a trip. I'll be gone for several hours, but we'll take this up again when I can. However, I must have a few minutes left before they can set up the plane - oh, baloney, here's a mob - see you later! / My plane has a magneto out of it, so my departure is slightly delayed. Little things have a way of upsetting schedules. Tomorrow I go on a longer trip; will be away for two or three days, but should be able to write to you again, no later than Monday. I feel so much better now that the teleprinter services is installed - that's what I used a few days ago when I got excited by the long gap in the arrival of your letters.'' Beneath, Ernest Lee, Eisenhower's personal aide, writes a postscript to Mamie. Includes original mailing envelope. Two page letter on ruled stationery measures 8'' x 10.5''. Light toning and creasing, else near fine.
