Preliminary pencil illustration by American artist Garth Williams for the scene on page 2 in E.B. White's 1952 children's book ''Charlotte's Web.'' Fern reacts emotionally to her father's plan to kill the newborn piglet that would become her pet, Wilbur. Williams initials the 8.5'' x 11'' sketch ''GW'' at the lower right and numbers it ''3.16326'' on the verso. Minor creasing, else near fine condition.
