Benjamin Harrison letter signed as U.S. Senator of Indiana on 11 January 1882, written on U.S. Senate stationery. Written 7 years before becoming the 23rd President of the United States, Harrison writes to General Benjamin Grierson who fought for the Union in the Civil War. In full: ''I have received your letter of the 3rd and will be glad to confer with General Brown and Major Culkins on the subject and to do anything that I properly can for a deserving soldier. Very truly yours, [signed] Benj Harrison''. Includes original Senate envelope. Letter measures 7.5'' x 9.5''. Intersecting folds and small piece missing on left edge, otherwise in near fine condition with elegant handwriting.
