Letter by Henry C. Douglas of the 31st Indiana Infantry, Co. K, regarding the Battle of Nashville. Dated 16 December 1864 while the Battle was still ongoing, Douglas writes in full, ''Mr. Jones. A heavy battle was fought. Our brigade led the charge. We carved the rebel works & captured 3 pieces of artillery. Our regt. we captured in all 17. I had 2 killed & 2 seriously wounded. Don't know yet how many killed in regt. Had 16 or 18 perhaps more. This is the morning & today we are following them up. We are crowned with success. We climed their works under a heavy fire. We captured 800 prisoners in front of our regt. Yours in haste, H.C. Douglas P.S. I have 6 holes in my overcoat, but all right. Genl. Kimble led the charge.'' Single page pencil letter is very good.
