Ruth signs his legal name ''GH Ruth'' in black ink on the signature line and handwrites the entire check, payable to Jay B. Starkey for $6.46. Payment is seemingly for taxes owed on Florida real estate, as evidenced by notes on verso. ''BABE RUTH'' is printed on left side of check. Measures 8.5'' x 3.25''. Discreet cancellation holes not affecting signature. Tape from original matting on edges and some age toning, in overall very good condition.
