Abraham Lincoln magic lantern slide showing the earliest known photo of Lincoln, taken by Nicholas H. Shepherd in 1846 or 1847 after Lincoln was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. The photograph shows Lincoln as a distinguished young man of about 37 bearing little resemblance to the more commonly seen images of him as President. Glass slide measures 4'' x 3.25'', including casing, with copy showing that slide originated from the New York State Education Department. Very good condition with excellent contrast.
