Newsletter by the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA), Vol. 1, No. 6 from 8 March 1957. The MIA was formed in December 1955 by Martin Luther King and Edgar Nixon to facilitate the Montgomery bus boycott, the first boycott in the Civil Rights movement. Early issue discusses the violent backlash to the Supreme Court's decision to desegregate the buses in Montgomery, Alabama; reports cover the shooting of a pregnant black woman, drive-by shootings of buses, and bombings of local black churches and businesses. Also mentioned is the second attempt on King's life, ''...twelve sticks of smouldering dynamite were found on the porch of Reverend M. L. King, Jr.'s home in time to prevent the second bombing on the MIA president.'' Newsletter runs 3pp. on three sheets, measuring 8.5'' x 14''. Toning, a few scattered pinholes, a small tear to top edges and a pencil notation to right margin of first page. Overall very good.
