Engraved football championship medal from 1913, the first year Canada ever held a national competition. 10kt medal made by Bailey was awarded to the winner of the 4 competing teams: Fort William C.P.R. of New Ontario, Toronto Old Country of Southern Ontario, Lachine of Quebec, and Norwood Wanderers of Manitoba. Each team played each other once, with a win earning 2 points, a tie earning 1 point, and a loss earning 0 points. Norwood Wanderers won their first match and tied their next 2, receiving 4 total points and edging out runner-up Lachine by a point. Norwood Wanderers would go on to repeat in 1914, but after a tournament suspension during WWI and various rule changes, the team would never again become champions. The entire Norwood Wanderers squad, including B. Mayson (who played in all 3 games in 1913), was eventually inducted into the Manitoba Hall of Fame in 2004. Medal features inscription on front: ''DOMINION CANADA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION'' and engraving on verso: ''CHAMPIONS OF CANADA / 1913 / NORWOOD WNADERERS F.C. / B. MAYSON''. Measures 30 mm or 1.25''. Weighs 12.6 g. or 0.4 oz. Comes housed in blue box with blue felt bottom and white satin lining. Included is a reprinted photo of the entire Norwood Wanderers football club (B. Mayson featured on bottom row, 6th from the left) and articles detailing history of championship. Medal is presented in near fine condition.
