1784 deed signed by Abraham Schuyler, Esq., High Sheriff of Middlesex County, New Jersey, attesting that the estate of Philip French of New Brunswick has been sold to Phebe Carmichael. Document reads in part, ''...previous to the late Revolution, divers Execution had been levied upon the Estate of the said Philip French deceased which still remain unsatisfied...it may be lawful for Abraham Schuyler...to sell and dispose of in the mode prescribed by law so much of the said estate...as shall be necessary to satisfy the said executions...I did...sell to Phebe Carmichael for the sum of Twenty five pounds...who being then there the highest bidder for the same...in the City of New Brunswick...on the south side of French Street...'' Schuyler signs the 8'' x 13'' three-page card-style document on 30 August 1784. An embossed stamp is affixed next to the signature and top edge is scalloped. Small separations at folds and minor soiling; very good.
